Temperatures continue to drop as expected with the arrival of frigid temperatures expected to hit minus 14 tonight.
At 12:51 p.m., the mercury registered 4 degrees, with a 24 mph wind generating a minus 18 degree wind chill, closely matching the National Weather Service forecast so far.
The temperature peaked at a balmy 45 degrees with light rain at 11:51 p.m. Sunday before diving for the basement over the next 13 hours, according to National Weather Service observations at Akron Canton Airport.
Tonight, the temperature is expected to hit minus 14, with wind chill values as low as minus 38.
Little to no snow accumulation is expected.
Most schools in Stark County are closed today on account of the freezing temperatures, and 24-hour warming centers with warm drinks are already open at the Canton Civic Center at 1101 Market Ave. N and the Salvation Army at 315 6th St. NE in Massillon.
