  • The first city council meeting of the new year was postponed Monday due to cold weather, in addition to no heat in council's meeting room.
Safety-Service Director Al Hennon said the problem will be looked into, and a fix to the heating system is hopeful as soon as today.
"It was 58 degrees inside there (Monday) morning," Hennon said. "There's definitely something wrong."
A heating specialist was expected to check out the system sometime this morning, Hennon said.
Council President Tony Townsend said a sporadic problem with the heat was first noticed in October.
He said Clerk of Council Mary Beth Bailey was sent home at noon Monday due to the chilly work environment.
"It's really too cold to be there," Townsend said.
Council's meeting was rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the council chambers at the Massillon Government and Justice Center, 1 James Duncan Plaza SE.
