  • The Ohio Department of Transportation District 11 has hired Beaver Excavating Co. of Canton to repair a landslide on I-77 near the Tuscarawas/Guernsey County line.
The southbound travel lane was closed Thursday because of the slip.
Beaver Excavating will set up concrete barriers for the work zone today. One lane of traffic will continue to be maintained in the southbound passing lane, and northbound lanes will not be affected.
Over the next two weeks, ODOT's Office of Geotechnical Engineering will begin soil analysis work, including bore sampling.
Depending on the results of that analysis, remediation work could include construction of a retaining wall or a combination of temporary repairs, such as excavation and soil nails, until a long-term, permanent fix is identified.
Officials are currently anticipating a summer completion date, and early cost estimates are about $1 million.
