  • Here are the latest cancellations, postponements and weather-related announcements for Stark County as a major winter storm rolls through the area:
    Wind chill advisory issued for Northeast Ohio
    The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Northeast Ohio for Friday morning.
    Stark, Wayne, Mahoning and Holmes counties are under the advisory from 1 to 10 a.m. Friday.
    Wind at speeds of 15 to 20 mph, with 30 mph gusts, will combine with frigid temperatures to make it feel like it's 10 degrees below zero overnight. Drifts and blowing snow could reduce visibility on some roads.
    Winds are expected to reduce to 10 to 15 mph by daybreak, according to the National Weather Service.


    Weather prompts warnings, closings, parking bans
    Several communities have declared snow emergencies due to the snow, which is expected to increase throughout the day and evening.
    Lake Township trustees have declared a snow emergency parking ban for township streets from noon today or when snowfall reaches two inches or any severe ice situation, according to a news release from the township. The snow emergency will be in effect for 48 hours.
    Plain Township trustees have instituted a parking ban through noon Friday.
    Canal Fulton is under a parking ban until snow plowing and snow-removal operations have been completed.
    A parking ban has been issued for all Nimishillen Township roads until 4 p.m. Saturday.
    All Akron Area YMCA branches, including the Green Family YMCA, will close at 7 p.m. today due to the weather. For updates, visit akronymca.org.
    The Summit County Sheriff's Office also has issued a snow emergency for Summit County. Motorists are advised that ice and blowing and drifting snow have made the roads hazardous. Drivers should exercise caution.

    Route 173 reopens after accident

    State Route 173 (State Street NE) was closed for several hours Thursday afternoon west of Alliance due to a traffic accident.
    The highway was closed for about a third of a mile between Moulin Avenue NE and U.S. Route 62.
    The Ohio Highway Patrol responded to the wreck at 12:15 p.m. Thursday. The road reopened before 4 p.m.
    Parking bans in effect
    Several communities have issued parking bans due to the snow, which is expected to incrase throughout the day.
    Lake Township trustees have declared a snow emergency parking ban for township streets from noon today or when snowfall reaches two inches or any severe ice situation, according to a news release from the township. The snow emergency will be in effect for 48 hours.

    Louisvillle issues a parking ban on all streets and alleys whenever more than 2 inches of snow falls. The area had received 2.3 inches snow by mid-day Thursday.
    Canal Fulton has issued a parking ban Thursday on all city streets.
    According to a news release from the city, the ban will remain in effect until snow plowing and snow removal operations are complete.
    Motorists are asked to remove vehicles from the streets to keep roadways clear for snowplows and emergency vehicles.
