  • A 75-year-old woman was killed in a crash Thursday near McCallum Avenue on state Route 173.
Caroline L. Kunz, of Alliance, was driving east on the state route, also known as State Street NE, when she lost control on the snowy roads and slid broadside in front of a semi truck, investigators said.
Rick Walters, investigator for the Stark County Coroner's Office, said Kunz was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:10 p.m. The preliminary cause of death was head and chest injuries.
Kunz went off the south side of the road in her 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue about noon and hit a guard rail before sliding into the path of the westbound truck, according to a news release from Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The truck driver, 53-year-old Gary W. Ramsey, of Louisville, was taken to Alliance Community Hospital. He was treated for minor injuries and released. The truck was owned by Ramsey Harvest and Transport Inc. of Louisville, according to the release.
The wreck closed state Route 173 between Moulin Avenue NE and U.S. Route 62 for several hours Thursday afternoon. The Canton post of the Highway Patrol was investigating the accident.
