Multiple inches of snowfall throughout Thursday resulted in a fatality and some minor accidents on area municipal and rural roads, according to local police.
A 74-year-old woman died after 1 p.m. Thursday from a vehicle accident on state Route 173 in Washington Township, according to an Ohio Highway Patrol dispatcher.
Alliance resident Caroline Kunz was driving east on the road, also known as State Street NE, when she lost control on the snowy route and slid broadside in front of a semi truck, investigators said.
In Perry Township, two accidents on Faircrest Street SW resulted in minor injuries. One vehicle slid down an embankment. The driver declined medical treatment. In another accident, an 18-year-old driver who struck a tree was taken to Affinity Hospital with a head injury.
A Massillon Fire Department dispatcher reported a single-car accident about 3 p.m. Thursday on Fohl Road SW in Bethlehem Township. A minor female passenger was hurt from the grip of a seat belt when the car went off the road but did not need medical attention.
A parking restriction was put in place Thursday by Canal Fulton officials, so the city could plow snow along municipal roads. The parking ban was to continue through the night and into early this morning, a dispatcher said, adding that no accidents were reported due to snow.
