2014 Bold Predictions

* The Division won't be released in 2014

Ubisoft has shown that they aren't afraid to delay a game that isn't ready. The Division is an ambitious game with lofty expectations so expect Ubisoft to give the developer more time to work on this title. This game won't be released until it's right and I don't think it will be ready by fall. My best guess is spring 2015 at the earliest.

* EA Won't Release a Major Star Wars Game in 2014

Despite having the Star Wars license I don't think we will see anything on this front from EA next year. DICE has its hands full with Battlefield 4's wide array of problems right now and I don't think they would be able to build Battlefront in a year anyway. I expect the first Star Wars games to trickle out in 2015 with Battlefront landing in November of that year.

* Titanfall Won't Have Server Problems When it Launches

EA has to launch a working online game eventually right? I predict Titanfall will work fine based on the fact that it launches on only three platforms in March. After the Battlefield 4 debacle I'm sure EA understands how important it is for Titanfall to launch with as few problems as possible. If they don't get this one right I'm not sure they are going to get anything right.

* Treyarch won't release a Call of Duty game in 2014

I think Activision turns to Glen Schofield and Sledgehammer games in 2014. Putting the Call of Duty studios on a three-year cycle may help quality and having one of the visionary minds behind the original Dead Space take a shot at gaming's most popular brand may help invigorate the series a bit. Sledgehammer has existed for a while and I think this is the year they have something to show for it.

* Fallout 4 will be revealed at E3

Fallout 4 exists and we will see it at E3 this year. Hoax aside Bethesda is working on something and I think it's a new entry in the Fallout series. I think you can expect Bethesda to alternate working on the Fallout and Elder Scroll Series so it's Fallout's turn at the plate. Expect Todd Howard and company to be making the media rounds this June.

* Kingdom Hearts Won't Release in 2014

I don't expect to see much on this game next year. I think it comes out in 2015 at the earliest. I don't know that this is truly a bold prediction but don't expect to see more than a trailer for this game next year.

* Capcom will reboot Resident Evil in 2014

I think we are going to here about a new Resident Evil next year. I think after the disaster that was Resident Evil 5 Capcom may take a page out of the Tomb Raider playbook and reboot the series. It may be time and that would be the best way to find a new audience on a new generation of consoles.

* Mortal Kombat 10 will be Announced

I think NeatherRealm Studios returns to the series that made them famous with a reveal of a new Mortal Kombat at E3 2014. Much like Bethesda is doing with the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series I think you are going to see Neatherrealm bounce between Mortal Kombat and the Injustice series. It's been a few years now so I think the studio probably has an idea of where they are going to take Mortal Kombat.

* Rocksteady Returns with a new Batman Game

Kevin Conroy said he was working on a new game around the time Arkham Origins was announced this year. I expect us to find out what that is this year. I have a feeling WB games wants to annualize this franchise so I fully expect to see a new entry in 2014. I would like to see a continuation of the Arkham story. It would be interesting to see where Batman goes without Mark Hamill's Joker around to torment him any longer. Hopefully writer Paul Dini is back on board as well. Dini writes DC characters and especially Batman better than anybody. I'd tell Dave Goyer and Zack Snyder to pay close attention to how Dini does things as they prep Batman vs. Superman (A ridiculous concept to begin with. A man versus a demigod? Come on! Batman can grimace and growl all he wants but when you have a guy that can flick him in the forehead and knock him through seven walls I don't see how he competes.) they won't. It's nice to see somebody get it right though so I'm excited for more Arkham.

* Steam Machines will be Released to Poor Sales and Little Buzz

Steam is a great place to play games and is a must have program for any pc player. Having said that I have no idea who the Steam Machines we have been hearing about are for. I predict they are going to be prohibitively expensive and that anyone interested in one will just build a gaming PC instead. I'm not interested in the odd controller either. I think PC players will stick with the PC while console gamers are going to stick with the PS4 or X-Box One. You'll probably be able to get a PS4 or even an X-Box One at a far better price than a comparable Steam Machine. I think the far more interesting thing to keep an eye on will be the Steam Operating System. I think that has the potential to be something special eventually whereas I just don't see an audience for the Steam machines.
