Police believe a man killed Friday night was the victim of a robbery, and a second shooting victim is a robbery suspect.
Michael A. Sibert Jr., 19, was gunned down in his apartment at 643 Alan Page Dr. SE around 6 p.m. Friday. Police said he was shot twice and died at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy — police haven't released his name — suffered several gunshot wounds to his face. He is being treated at Cleveland Metro Health Center and in critical condition, Canton Police Capt. Dave Davis said Monday.
It's believed that the 16-year-old was one of three males who tried to rob Sibert, Davis said.
Police said Sibert answered his door Friday evening to find three males armed with guns. During the robbery, Sibert and the 16-year-old began to fight, leading to shots being fired, Davis said.
Sibert and the 16-year-old were found in the apartment, while two other suspects fled. Police believe one of the suspects might have suffered a gunshot wound during the melee.
Davis said the 16-year-old is from Cleveland, and it's believed the other two suspects are from Cleveland.
No description was available of the two others who fled, Davis said.
Police still are investigating the shooting.
Davis said anyone with information about the incident should call detectives at 330-489-3144 or leave an anonymous tip on the city's tip411 tipline by texting the word CANTON and then tip411 or 847411.
