Regarding our Stark County sheriff saga. One has to wonder, why take the risk?
Randy Gonzalez and the Reappoint Maier Committee are taking a risk most of us would not take. I don't care how many "yes man lawyers," an objective person would weigh the risk. Realizing that "want to appoint my family and friends" is a strong influence, but enough to ignore the downside?
The last appointment of Maier cost Stark citizens approximately $250,000. ("Court reinstates Swanson, says Maier failed to meet legal requirements to be sheriff" Nov. 7). With pending litigation, why risk it again?
Then the light goes on. It's not their money at risk! It's ours!
