  • Lake senior forward Mitch Spotleson has signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Malone University.
Spotleson, a 6-foot-4 forward, led the Blue Streaks in scoring last season with 17 points per game. He also led the team with seven rebounds per game and shot 62 percent from the field as Lake won its first-ever Federal League championship and reached the Alliance Division I district final.
"Mitch has proven to be one of the elite basketball players for the Blue Streaks," Lake coach Tom McBride said in a statement issued by the school. "Although Mitch's success on the court is noteworthy, it's his great character and leadership abilities that have led him to be one of Stark County's premier players."
Spotleson received Associated Press Special Mention All-Ohio honors as a junior and was named All-Federal League for the second straight season. He enters his senior season ranked 16th in scoring for Lake boys basketball.
"Mitch will be a great addition to our program and we are very thankful to add another Stark County player," Malone University head basketball coach Tim Walker said in a prepared statement. "Mitch is the son of a coach, which is evident by the way he plays the game. He is a tremendous leader and was a huge part of leading Lake to their first ever Federal League title. He is a winner and a great student."
Spotleson plans to major in education at Malone.
