  • During a regular meeting Nov. 12, Lake Township Trustees passed a resolution to purchase three brine tanks and a pumping system so that the road department can start mixing eco-friendly brine with road salt.
Trustees approved paying $3,500 to Concord Road Equipment for a 6,100 gallon bulk storage tank. They also approved paying $1,300 to Mark Firestone for a 6,000 gallon and a 1,500 gallon poly-chemical bulk storage tanks.
Trustee John Arnold said that the Ohio Department of Transportation recommends using the brine system for treating roads during the winter weather.
"This is an investment that will save the township money in the long run," Arnold said. "Over 47 percent of the dry salt that goes on the road ends up in the ditches alongside the road. Mixing the salt with the brine will allow the township to use less salt per mile and the wet salt will stay on the road longer. We are one of the few townships or municipalities that have started to use this system."
In other business Nov. 12, trustees:
    • Approved the sale of the two used police vehicles – a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria and a 2008 Ford Crown Victorian. The highest sealed bid for each car came from Grace Quality Used Cars in Morrisville, Pa. The 2007 was sold for $1,556 and the 2008 was sold for $2,656.
    • Approved rezoning 27 acres on Edison Street owned by Alvin, Fannie and Ervin Byler. The first parcel at 960 Edison St. was rezoned from general commercial and medium density residential to general commercial. The second parcel was rezoned from low density residential to general commercial and medium density residential.
    • Reappointed Rick Dye to a 5-year term on the Lake Township Board of Zoning Appeals beginning Nov. 10.
    • Passed a resolution to execute a Memorandum of Understanding for a pay raise for Tim Gross, a full-time, probationary road department employee, effective Nov. 9. He will be paid $19.51 per hour, an increase from approximately $17 per hour. The raise was negotiated at the time he was hired and applies only to Gross and his unique circumstances, ability, skills, merit and previous work experience with Lake Township road department.
The next Lake Township Trustees meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 25 at the Township Hall.
