Food Network Chef Tyler Florence helped to christen the Green Giant Eagle Marketplace recently.
It was a giant day at the Green Giant Eagle when Food Network celebrity chef Tyler Florence helped to christen the new Market District.
Florence, who helped with the ribbon cutting event of the grocery store's new 23,000-square-foot addition at 1700 Corporate Woods Parkway, shared his passion for cooking fresh, healthy foods.
"If it weren't for all of you, I would not be here," Florence told those who gathered for the event. "I appreciate each and every one of you."
During the event, Florence also spent time autographing his new cookbook "Tyler Florence Fresh."
Green is one of only eight Giant Eagle stores to offer a Market District location and with it comes 100 new jobs. According to the Giant Eagle website, each Market District is inspired by Europe's open-air markets. They're designed to provide fresh, healthy and hard-to-find foods as well as prepared meals.
The Green store's fresh perspective begins with the 11 store chefs who offer freshly prepared foods. The Sizzling Wok specializes in made to order stir-fry and authentic pho and pad Thai. Visitors can enjoy fresh hearth-baked pizzas or sample items from hot and cold food bars that feature soups, salads and specialty entrees. The Market District also offers a 16-seat bar with a sushi station and plenty of seating.
"It is not just a grocery store anymore," Executive Chef John Belt said the in-store restaurant.
Education is another critical component of the Market District. There are always chefs on hand to answer questions or help with a recipe. Cooking demonstrations presented are daily.
"We want the customers to know we are here to help," Market District Team Leader Michelle O'Brien.
In addition to the prepared foods, the Market District offers a wide variety of difficult to find foods including Emu eggs and more than 400 cheeses such as potato chip cheese and lemon ricotta cheesecake cheese.
