U.S. Marshal lists Canton resident atop new "most wanted sex offender" list
The U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has a new list targeting wanted sex offenders, and a Canton fugitive is at the top of the first one.

"We named the list the 'Agonizing 8' because the definition of agonizing is to cause great physical or mental pain, and each of these offenders have caused great physical and mental pain on their victims," said U.S. Marshal Peter J. Elliott in a news release.

All of them should be considered dangerous, he said, adding that they "should not be approached by the general public," he said.

Cameron Thompson was named at the top of the list of the "Agonizing 8."

A 38-year-old man convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, Thompson is wanted for failure to register as a sex offender.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction lists him as a violator-at-large who "should be considered dangerous and possibly armed." He was convicted at least twice of failing to notify authorities of his change of address and once each for sexual battery and burglary. The website also says he was released from prison May 23 and he is on parole.

Thompson was listed as a resident of 502 Hazlett Ave. NW in Canton, the website said.

Stark County court records listed him as a resident of Apt. 5 at 129 17th St. NW as recently as last week. A warrant was issued Oct. 28 for his arrest as a habitual sex offender who failed to tell authorities he's moved. The court records also show he was convicted in 1996 of burglary, escape and criminal damaging and endangering.

Elliott asked that anyone with information about Thompson's location to call the task force at (866) 4WANTED or test keyword WANTED and the tip to TIP411 (847411). Tipsters may remained anonymous and cash rewards are available.
