Stark County Community Action Agency's Winter Crisis Program has begun. The program runs through March 31.
The agency is scheduling appointments for assistance.
The Home Energy Assistance Program's Winter Crisis Program provides assistance one time each heating season to income eligible households whose service has been disconnected, threatened with disconnection or households with less than 25 percent supply of bulk fuel.
According to a news release from SCCAA, as the temperature begins to dip, home energy bills rise and family budgets shrink leaving families in need of help.
Besides getting utility service turned on, SCCAA also can set up a payment plan to make monthly payments more affordable, the release said.
Appointments will be held between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 8 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday at the SCCAA HEAP Canton main site, 1370 Market Ave. N, Canton. Walk-ins will be accepted 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Massillon residents can schedule an appointment from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays at Salvation Army, 315 Sixth St. NE.
Appointments are also held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Old Theater Group Apartments, 247 E. Main St., Alliance.
The Canton location will host two Super Saturday events Nov. 16 and Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will assist up to 75 households on a first-come, first-served basis and is for households whose utility service is shut off, those who are transferring or applying for new service or those with a supply of 25 percent or less of bulk fuel.

Eligible applications must bring proof of income for the past 13 weeks for individuals 18 and older, current utility bills (both gas and electric), Social Security numbers and birth dates of household members, landlord's name, address and telephone number and the birth certificate of the head of household.
