  • This has been an exceptional year for the Green girls golf team which achieved a 13-1 record for the first time in program history.
"Highland has been our nemesis," head coach Jake Shocklee said of the team’s only loss. “We just can't seem to beat them; It is very frustrating to us.”
Shocklee, however, is pleased with the performance his team has turned in. Comprised of  three seniors, one sophomore, and two freshmen, the team has a blend of experience and a solid foundation for future success.
“I have been very impressed with the senior leadership and the development of the underclassmen in their decision making process during their rounds,” Shocklee said. “And I am excited about the junior varsity and their success so far. Our future is really looking bright."
Leadership from the seniors has been a key component to the team’s success this season as it helped to build a cohesive team.
"All of our crazy, loud personalities go together,” senior Jacelyn Claytor said of the team’s togetherness. “We always pull out a win with help from each other.”
Leadership, also, has allowed two freshmen to step up their play. Freshman Brooke Babbin is considered by the players to be the best of the golfers on the team and she accepts the compliments modestly.
"I have been able to play a lot this year so far," she says. "And so far I have had a pretty good season.”
Freshman Abbie Pearce, meanwhile, takes the team’s success in stride.
"We really don't care about our position," Pearce said. "We all go out to do our best. We really don't care where we are ranked!"
The year has not been without its share of challenges. Sophomore Madison Jackson battled through injuries as the season went on.
“Since I have been injured,” Jackson said, “I haven't been able to play in a lot of matches. When I was able to play, I did play well. But unfortunately I haven't been able to play that much this year because of my injuries."
As the season winds down, the team looks to the postseason with high hopes.
"It has been a record-breaking year for us," Shocklee said. “We are hoping to do well in postseason play. I have a good group of girls and they have been fun to coach."
