  • The New Philadelphia Board of Education has accepted donations from two area foundations to finance a scoreboard project at the high school gymnasium.
The donations included $24,890 from the Harold C. and Marjorie Q. Rosenberry Tuscarawas County Foundation and $24,985 from the Reeves Foundation.
The scoreboard, which has not been ordered yet, will likely be installed in the summer of 2014, according to Superintendent Bob Alsept.
“It’s not something we would have done without the support of those foundations,” he said.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, the board:
n Heard a report from Elle Stokey on her participation in the Buckeye Girls State/Girls State Nation Leader Conference in Washington in August. She was one of two girls from Ohio selected to attend. During the conference, Stokey went on a tour of the White House and met President Obama.
n Heard Alsept report that an informational meeting on the district’s 7.2-mill emergency operating levy will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Front Street multi-purpose room. The additional operating levy will appear on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
