Event highlights
• More than 120 historical reenactors will descend on Fort Laurens this weekend as the Brigade of the American Revolution comes to town for the “Revolution on the Tuscarawas.”
• Reenactors from the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment and British soldiers from the King’s 8th Regiment of Foote will be in camp for the festivities, giving visitors a look at life in Colonial times. Reenactors will portray British and German soldiers (who were hired by Britain), American militia members and regular Army members, Native Americans, civilians, engineers and Colonial women.
• Eighteenth century civilians and soldiers will lead visitors on guided tours of the grounds.
• Gunfire will ring out as mock battles are staged twice daily and the weaponry of the day — rifles and muskets — is demonstrated.
• Children can engage in a special treat of Colonial games, such as a sack race and an egg toss.
• Visitors can peruse 18th century replicas of goods at a flea market featuring cooking materials, clothing, blankets and other items.
• A special ceremony will be staged at the Tomb of the Unknown Patriot of the American Revolution both days.
Why attend? The event brings history to life at Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort and benefits the nonprofit museum, which is owned and operated by the Ohio Historical Society and managed by the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
