ICE ICE BABY!
During First Friday from 6 to 10 tonight, watch as ice sculptors convert blocks of ice into more than 20 works of art at various locations around downtown Canton’s arts district. Returning this year will be world-champion ice sculptor Aaron Costic. A Speed-Carving Competition will begin at 7 p.m. on Fourth St. NW, with the winner chosen at 9 by popular vote.
BEERS, BANDS, CHAINSAWS
The Most Beautiful Losers is one of 10 rockabilly, bluegrass, roots-rock and folk-punk acts that will perform on two stages during Buzzbin Magazine’s Froth Fest from 4 to 9:30 p.m. today at Cleveland Avenue and Fourth Street NW in downtown Canton. The free event will feature a beer garden serving Brrr Seasonal Ale, Shock Top, Bass and other brews; chainsaw ice carving; Asian-inspired eats from Umami Moto, plus the girls of the Tilted Kilt. Other musical acts include Johnny & the Applestompers, Viva le Vox, Misery Jackals, Blue Ribbon Bluegrass Band, Dolly Rocker Ragdoll.
SOFT ROCK SOUNDS
As part of First Friday, the Sherman Miller Trio will perform from 8 to 10 tonight at 2nd April Galerie at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW in downtown Canton. Members are Miller, guitar and vocals; Jennifer Randell, lead vocals and percussion, and Carl Safreed, drums. The group plays songs by Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Heart, The Beatles and others.
FREE PALACE MOVIE
The animated adventure-comedy “Ice Age: The Meltdown,” featuring the voices of Denis Leary, John Leguizamo and Ray Romano, will be shown at 7:30 tonight at downtown Canton’s Palace Theatre, as part of First Friday. Admission is free.
MUSEUM PRE-PARTY
Enjoy complimentary wine and cheese and pick up the January issue of About Magazine during First Stop First Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight at the Canton Museum of Art. Visitors may enjoy four current exhibitions, among them “Evocations: The Art of Martin Bertman."
FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT
Room and Board, a “dark indie pop” band from Columbus influenced by Spoon and Television, will headline tonight at The Auricle at 601 Cleveland Ave. NW. The 8 p.m. concert also will feature Elephant Gun, Honest Abe & the Rail Splitters, and Set the Stage. All ages are welcome. Admission is $6 for 21 and older, $8 for 20 and younger.

“New York,” a pastel portrait by Judi Krew, and “Audrey,” a spraypaint-on-glass work by Tim Carmany, are among the current offerings at 2nd April Galerie at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW.

Twenty artists were asked to create a new cover for a classic novel for the January exhibition titled “Required Reading,” opening tonight from 6:30 to 10 at Translations Art Gallery (formerly Anderson Creative) at 331 Cleveland Ave. NW. Seen here is Emily Vigil’s cover for “As I Lay Dying.” The show will remain on display through Jan. 28. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The south half of the gallery will be a permanent showroom for the furniture and other creations of Kevin Anderson.
