Event highlights

• Massillon Cable TV, the Massillon Museum and the Downtown Massillon Association have joined forces once again to present the Downtown Massillon Fun Fest, complete with a full slate of activities for area families to enjoy.

• Kids can lose themselves in games, storytime, face painting, art projects, crafts, dancing, train riding, a petting zoo and a visit to the Bookmobile.

• Local organizations and businesses, such as the Massillon Parks and Recreation Department, Salvation Army, Massillon Family YMCA and Lighthouse Visions, will offer activities and demonstrations, pass out free coloring books, balloons, puzzles and other fun items, along with information about their services.

• The New England Garden Club will lend a hand at a flower-arranging station, and the Massillon Museum will help participants complete art projects, such as tie-dyeing T-shirts.

• “Barney Fife” and his old-time police vehicle will be on hand, alongside the Aultman Hospital WOW van, the Bloodmobile, Coastie the Coast Guard mascot, Grandma Turtle Foot and some of the units from the Ohio Safety Fest.

• Families can enjoy a free theatrical performance of “Stone Soup” by the newly formed Massillon Boys and Girls Club drama program at Lions Lincoln Theatre at 11 a.m. and catch a free film at the theater at 2 p.m.

• Visitors also can take in performances by the Tiger Swing Band Drum Line, Eternity Irish Step Dancing, martial arts groups, belly dancers, the Stark Parks’ “Animals of Ohio” program and a competition from Canton Idol contenders.

Why attend?

It’s aptly named, with all sorts of fun activities for all ages, and it’s free to attend.
