• This year’s Academy Awards celebrates the youngest and oldest stars ever nominated for the Best Actress category. Emmanuelle Riva, who stars in “Amour” is the oldest at 85, while the 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis of “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is the youngest.

• Several of the nominees this year are previous winners, including Daniel Day-Lewis, Tommy Lee  Jones, Sally Field (all starring in “Lincoln”), Denzel Washington (“Flight”), Robert De Niro (“Silver Linings Playbook”), Alan Arkin (“Argo”), Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (“The Master”) and Helen Hunt (“The Sessions”).

• Spielberg and his producing partner, Kathleen Kennedy, share the record for the most Best Picture nominations for an individual producer. “Lincoln” is the eighth film Steven Spielberg has had in the Best Picture category as a producer and/or director. He won in 1993 for “Schindler’s List.” His other Best Picture nominees include “E.T. the Extra–Terrestrial” (1982), “The Color Purple” (1985), “Saving Private Ryan” (1998), “Munich” (2005), “Letters from Iwo Jima” (2006) and “War Horse” (2011).

•  Jessica Chastain, who is up for Best Actress for her role in “Zero Dark Thirty,” is the only current nominee who was also nominated for the 2012 Academy Awards. Last year she was in the Supporting Actress category for her work in “The Help.”

• George Clooney has joined a special club that only has one other member – Warren Beatty. The two men are the only people who have had nominations in the Best Picture, Directing, Writing and Acting categories. This year, Clooney is one of the producers of “Argo,” a Best Picture nominee.
