A Cuyahoga Falls man is being sought in connection with Sunday’s confrontation in which an Akron man was shot multiple times.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Robert W. Petrone. The 46-year-old faces a single count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony, after police said the victim identified Petrone as the shooter.

The shooting occurred around 5:10 p.m. at a tree farm in a quiet area of Jackson Township near Strausser Elementary School.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.

According to Massillon Municipal Court records, the victim, Kevin J. Ciptak, 46, was found in the driveway at 8785 Strausser St. NW with several gunshot wounds. He told officers that Petrone shot him with a handgun, court records said.

Ciptak was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for wounds to his abdomen, left arm and right hand. A hospital spokeswoman had no information on his condition.

A neighbor told 911 dispatchers that she was in her horse barn and heard gunshots come from the nearby tree farm.

She also heard some curse words, but she did not see the incident. She told dispatchers that she grabbed her children outside and got them in the house. She later found Ciptak and told dispatchers that “he needs an ambulance.”

She also told dispatchers that after the incident, a white pickup with either ladder or glass racks drove away from the farm.

Anyone with information can call Police Chief David Zink or Detective Danny Sturia at (330) 834-3960.
