Diebold named Tony Byerly as executive vice president for its electronic security business.

Byerly will work to execute growth strategies for the electronic security business in all markets. He’s replacing Brad Stephenson, who retired at the end of 2011 as vice president for security solutions.

Most of Diebold’s electronic security business is in North America, so Byerly will report to Charles E. Ducey Jr., executive vice president for North America operations.

Byerly comes to Diebold from Stanley Convergent Security Solutions, a division of Stanley Black and Decker. He was president and chief operating officer of the division. Under Byerly’s leadership, Stanley Convergent Security became the second largest electronic security provider in North America.

Before joining Stanley, Byerly worked more than 20 years in the security business with several companies, including ADT/Tyco International, Honeywell Security Monitoring, Ameritech, SBC Global Communications, SecurityLink and Cambridge Protection Industries.

Diebold is banking on Byerly’s experience to help strengthen, enhance and expand its security business.

“Electronic security has an attractive growth profile and we are dedicated to making necessary investments to build our competency in North America and expand the model globally,” said Thomas W. Swidarski, Diebold president and chief executive officer.
