NORTH CANTON —
Suarez Manufacturing Industries will be up and running in the Hoover District on Sept. 6, making products once made in China and creating jobs for local residents.
EdenPURE space heaters and other products will be assembled in a 200,000-square-foot warehouse that Hoover Co. once used as a distribution center. About 70,000 square feet are being used for production and assembly, with the remainder set aside for storage and distribution.
“It’s all U.S. made,” Suarez told a crowd that came Thursday morning to tour the facility.
Suarez announced that EdenPURE space heaters will be available in 800 Sears stores around the country and through the Sears.com website.
Local business people and city officials attended the open house, which featured EdenPURE spokesman Bob Vila and Richard Karn. Vila is known for the television program “This Old House,” while Karn is an actor who appeared on the sitcom “Home Improvement.”
Karn served as master of ceremonies for a presentation under a tent set up in front of the building at 334 Orchard St. NE, introducing Suarez and Held.
“This is sort of a religious revival here,” Karn said, noting the tent and referring to the rebirth of jobs in the Hoover District.
JOBS COMING
Suarez said 300 people will be working in the former warehouse. Most will be on assembly lines putting together the space heaters. Some will operate presses and stamping machines to make parts for the heaters.
The additional jobs will boost North Canton’s income tax collections, although during the first two years half of the income tax collected will be returned to the company. North Canton agreed to an occupancy grant for Suarez. That agreement has Suarez investing the grant in the EdenPURE operation.
Suarez said he wanted to clarify what he considered to be misconceptions about the agreement his company reached with the city. The company isn’t receiving any state or federal subsidies, and no cash payout from the city, he said.
Suarez Corp. Industries could have set up EdenPURE production in Jackson Township, where many of the company’s officers are located, and avoided paying any income taxes, Suarez said. He preferred to locate in North Canton, calling it “one of the best run governments we’ve seen.”

EdenPURE heaters were being assembled in China, but that led to delays delivering the machines to customers in America. Delivery problems prompted Suarez to bring production back to the United States. He said it took three years to transfer production. The company is getting all parts and assemblies from U.S. companies.
Suarez also announced that production of EdenPURE’s scale rid product — designed to clear rust and minerals from household water lines — will be moved from Malaysia to North Canton. That will be another 10 jobs.
Vila and Karn both said Suarez could be leading a trend that has manufacturing return to the country.
“This is indicative of a day when we will be making things in America as opposed to just services,” Vila said.
