The Domestic Violence Project will use a recently awarded $15,000 Verizon grant to expand its SafeDates program to align with Verizon’s young adult’s violence prevention education initiative.

Last year, the program served more than 1,700 students and faculty members and continues to receive increasing requests for services. Safe Dates inclusion in our educational repertoire helps prevent lifelong physical, emotional and mental health issues for many students.

Safe Dates evidence-based curriculum prevents dating abuse and was designated as a model program by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration. In October, 2009, DVPI launched its pilot Safe Dates initiative. Demand has outgrown the resources for the program.
