Ever wonder what wine works best with chocolate? Tony Antoniades of Avenue Wine Shop in Canton recommends Rosa Regale, made by Banfi of Italy.

“Either chocolate was made to go with this, or this was made to go with chocolate,” said Antoniades, owner of the shop at 1728 Cleveland Ave. NW. “It’s the perfect chocolate wine.”

But that’s not the only reason Rosa Regale is ideal for Valentine’s Day.

“It’s slightly effervescent, but not like champagne,” Antoniades said.

The bubbles are said to be softer, yielding a “delicate pink froth,” according to the winemakers at Banfi.

In addition, the label features the bloom of a magnificent red rose, representing the wine’s origin from La Rosa Vineyard in the town of Acqui Terme, located in the Piedmont region of Italy. The wine’s garnet color is spot on for the holiday, as are its nuances of rose petals and fresh raspberries and strawberries.

Rosa Regale is best served chilled in a fluted glass. And while it is perfect for chocolate, its lower alcohol content also makes it fitting as an aperitif, or enjoyed with a meal and sweet dessert.

Find it on sale at the Avenue for $19.99; it’s regularly $23.

The shop’s phone number is 330-454-8108.
