A 63-year-old woman went to the police station Thursday afternoon and reported that when she bit into a cinnamon roll doughnut from a local doughnut shop, she felt something hard, which then caused her to feel an irritating, fizzing and burning sensation in her mouth, police said.
The woman said she had bought doughnuts Wednesday night and her husband had eaten some, apparently without any ill effects, before she bit into the doughnut Thursday.
She told police that her dentist confirmed that she had slight burns to her tongue and gum area on the left side of her mouth. The dentist and a second dentist, examined the doughnut, and could not find anything wrong with it.
Police Sgt. Doug Cardwell said after police consulted the Canton-Stark County Crime Lab, the doughnut was sent to the Stark County Health Department for analysis. He said no one else has reported any problems eating doughnuts.
