Plain Township Trustee Scott M. Haws was charged early Saturday morning with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a first-degree misdemeanor, police and court records say.

A North Canton police officer said in his report that he spotted Haws, 35, of Northview Avenue NE, who was driving a silver Ford vehicle, committing a lane violation near Maple Street E and Market Avenue N around 12:05 a.m.

The officer said after speaking with Haws, he determined the trustee was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police report indicated that results are pending the results of a urine test.

A message seeking comment was left on Haws’ voice mail Monday night.

Haws’ arraignment was scheduled in Canton Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday. He also was charged with a lane violation misdemeanor.

A police report said the officer issued Haws with a court summons, arranged for Haws’ car to be towed and released him at 1:22 a.m. to the custody of someone who apparently was Haws’ friend.
