Event highlights
• Michael Kerr of Jackson Township was 26 years old when he was killed in a motorcycle accident July 27, 2008. Every year since, his family has organized a motorcycle run not only to remember him, but to remember his legacy as an organ donor.
• Bill Wagner of New York, the recipient of Kerr’s heart, and Tommy Beadle of North Canton, who received Kerr’s kidney, will be among the more than 200 motorcyclists who will participate in the annual Big Mike’s Memorial Bike Run on Sunday.
• The first stop on the ride will be at the Kent State University Salem campus, where Kerr was one semester away from his degree in landscape design and management. The run also will travel through Waynesburg, Bolivar and Canal Fulton before returning to Greensburg Park for dinner.
• The event also will include games, raffles and prizes, including a weekend rental of a 300 BMW from Cain BMW and E350 Mercedes from Ganley Mercedes, overnight hotel stays, and gifts from local golf courses, restaurants, tattoo shops and spas.
Why attend? Kerr’s parents, Joe and Jan Kerr, are on the Family Donor Council at Lifebanc and will speak about the importance of organ donation. Half of the proceeds from the raffles will be donated to Lifebanc in Kerr’s name, and the other half will be donated to the Big Mike Memorial College Fund for Kerr’s niece.
