John Aller is getting his first pay hike after supervising the Stark County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board for 4 1/2 years.
The board recently approved a 3 percent raise, bringing Aller’s annual salary to about $113,000.
“John does an excellent job,” said Julie Gonzalez, president of the board. “He has declined increases in the past when the board has recommended them. We just felt that he has gone above what is required of him.”
The board channels funds to social service agencies which in turn provide substance-abuse and mental-health treatment and services for local residents.
Aller was not available Tuesday for comment. He has supervised the board from its inception in 2008.
The board is a union of two funding boards. One provided funds to mental-health treatment agencies. The other funded agencies that provided substance abuse treatment.
“We have managed to stay fiscally sound,” said Dan McMasters, another member of the county Mental Health and Recovery Services Board. “He did not ask for it at all. He has done a tremendous job, he is very involved at the state level.”
The Stark County board receives funding locally from a property tax. It also receives state funding from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.
Also, the board has received grants for specific initiatives and programs. Those grants total about $11.67 million since the board began functioning in 2008, according to Paula Mastroianni, public relations officer for the county board.
